Okay, so I am getting in gear. Everyone else I know has and actually posts to a blog. I was starting to feel a little left out. Kind of like this big "cellphone texting" thing. I've missed that boat as well. But, not one to be outdone, left behind or forgotten I am officially starting my own personal blog! I figure where better to vent my rantings and ravings that typically go in my journal. I'm much faster at typing, my hands don't get tired after a few sentences and this comes with spell checker! Blog away...
I've been thinking a lot about allergies and allergy medications lately. What is the deal? From spring to fall I am tormented by them, are they supposed to last that long? You know, you make it through another snow filled, stuck-in-the-house-kids-going-nuts winter just to be mowed over by the watery-can't-wear-mascara-for-6-months eyes, runny nose and roof of your mouth uncontrollably itching season. Someone decides to report that the pollen count is high or ragweed has sprouted (does ragweed sprout?) or sagebrush is knocking down your door and WHAM your body goes into fits. A week of having Kleenex stuffed into every crevice of your clothes gets old really fast.
Not a big pill popper, I inevitably start to entertain thoughts of chugging an entire bottle of Zyrtec just to feel some relief. Heading to the medicine cabinet, experiencing the internal conflict of struggling to control my willpower, I reach for last years bottle. Ignoring the expiration date (do these things really expire?) I swallow only one tiny, white pill and wait for the relief to surge through me. A few hours later later I'm feeling pretty good. Practically symptom free with only one Kleenex stuffed into one pocket - just in case.
But, these miracle pills only last for 24 hours. At about 18 hours I'm starting to feel the familiar tingly sensations in my nose and throat. At 20 hours I'm looking at the clock, trying to remember when I took that first pill so I can take another at exactly the 24 hour mark. By 24 hours I'm back to wanting to chug the bottle again.
After a couple weeks of this I start thinking, "Am I becoming addicted to this stuff?" My symptoms become so intensified when these pills start wearing off that I'm wondering if they are starting to actually contribute to my misery. Is this the whole plan? They take away your allergy pains for awhile only to enhance the symptoms at the end so you can hardly stand having to wait to take another pill. What a way to guarantee sales! Thinking I've discovered a new conspiracy theory I decide to quit, cold turkey. No switching to every-other-day or cutting the pills in half, oh no, I'm stronger than that. I'm stopping now...
Wow, talk about detoxing. Three days of shear...well, you know, about took me out. Allergy symptoms so intense that I wanted to scratch my eyes, throat and even lungs out! It took all I had not to succumb to the craving for yet another allergy pill - just one more and then I'll quit. But, what do you know. After the three torturous days my symptoms mysteriously eased up. I am now proud to say that I am operating Zyrtec free and feeling quite stable. Although not completely allergy free, it is livable and worlds better than what I was experiencing when "hooked". So, back to the shelf for my Zyrtec bottle (this one new and not yet expired) where I am sure I will repeat this whole process next spring...

Welcome to the world of blogging! Now we just have to get you on Facebook!!! Miss ya!
One step at a time here...
LOL, I love it Marie!! I can't wait to read more! :D And I welcome you to the blogging world as well. It's so nice!!
LOVE it!!! great idea and can't wait to read more! :)
much love!
Hey marie!!! You jumped on the bandwagon before me! Everyone's trying to get me to blog.....well, my flickr page will just have to do for now. :P
As for your allergies, so sorry! Bruce totally feels your pain! He actually went to an allergist a month or so ago and had that back-prick test thing done. They prick your back all over the place with different types of allergies and then measure your reaction after 10 min. to see how allergic you are.....Well, after 5 min. Bruce was off the charts with most of them! So we paid a bunch of $ to find out that he's seriously allergic, but they don't have any other type of relief than what a normal dr. would give you--a prescription. yay. Thanks for that and thanks for the fat bill. :P I guess they do have a therapy where you can go in every couple weeks or month or something for a shot to slowly teach your body to tolerate it, but that's even pricier than the test! So....Bruce is allergic and will continue to suffer as long as wel live where there are trees, pollen and weeds. Not to mention, cats, dogs and horses. LOL
BTW, I like your blog name. I'd have started my blog if I could come up with a name--not using my personal name at all :P Any ideas?
And, I agree with Christina--you gotta get on Facebook. I don't get on it often, but it's a good way to keep in contact with friends and relatives. I've re-connected with cousins that I haven't seen since I was a kid. Facebook also has some fun applications like Oregon Trail and fluff(friends)--that's like an e-pet that you can decorate their habitat, feed and pet. It's kinda fun.
Hey, good to see you blogging. I hear you about the allergy thing. although, mine have been better lately, which means I'm in for a bad year next.
Great! Now I'm going to have to get the blog thing going. I'm the only Sant Utah family member w/out one. However, I can text and do so regularly. You will NEVER see me on face book though. Anyone over 30 has no biz. You're still young...go for it. just remember to keep your balance. I'll bet half the women who make these incredible blogs have filthy houses. That will never happen to you:) of course...and I have to admit, it is a cute and fun way to keep informed. Happy blogging.
One of the fun things of these blogs is you learn things you never knew - you have hay fever allergies, didn't know that. Half of my kids, Chelsea and Blake, inherited them too. Some how I skated by, but feel badly I passed them along. Miserable stuff. At least it puts a silver lining to winter and being closed in with the kids again!
Hey Marie!
It's been forever! Your family pictures are so cute. I lost your address, but thank you for the cute dinosaur outfit for Carson. He has grown out of it now at 22 lbs. and 7 months! I hope all is well with you and your cute family! Sorry about the allergies I totally know how you feel! Talk to you soon! Apreal ps you can check our blog out too; sharingburdicktime.blogspot.com
When we moved to Texas, everyone told me that they'd never had allergies until they moved to Texas. I was all "sure..." and now I'm one of those with horrendous spring time allergies too. So pleasant.
You are just hilarious! You are quite the writer...very clear! It's like I'm there to experience it! Maybe that's because I identify. I really used to have allergies bad. I can't decided if the allergies are better now or if it's because of where we live. I've learned that city living is better for me! But my friend Tammie has it year round. I've been surprised my allergies haven't killed me here but I seem to be okay. I understand your pain!
Highly recommend the allergist thing, although it could mean snorting steroids up your nose every morning with your kids staring at you, then seeing them mimic it later in play. Very flattering... but it worked for me kind of. Unless I go outside for a while... Then they have the five year shot plan I may have to opt for.
loved the read...that was awesome and very entertaining! You will be a great blogger! lol...
We miss you guys! (And you missed all the drama that happened next door after you moved...lucky you):)
Yay for blogs! haha I LOVED this post. Your writing is so entertaining and I feel your pain on the allergy thing. Yay for asthma!
